Not just on my blog, but also at the office today. It ended up being a really long week in Florida. And it was made longer because the internet connection in my room was really bad…I mean, cannot get to normal websites bad. It literally took me 90 minutes one day to check my work email - a whole whopping 10 emails. I wrote 3 emails that crashed when I hit the Send button (I finally started copying and pasting the emails in Word before sending!). It was just impossible to do anything. I was happy to see that I was NOT charged by the hotel for internet connection during the week. If I had been charged, I was set to complain to the front desk. Not sure why I wasn’t charged, but it saved someone from getting what many of my friends call “the full Bergman” (this is my maiden name…when I was young and angry all the time).
Then my flight home was delayed 3 hours due to “maintenance issues” with the airplane. At least I had the opportunity to catch up with two sales reps from my company. I don’t usually see these reps and it is always good to get some up-close information on what they deal with trying to sell our books. By the way, if anyone out there is thinking that the airlines (my experience on Friday was with Northwest) that are now charging $50 for an extra bag are being a bit lenient on the over 50 lb. no-no…well, you are wrong. I normally come back from sales meeting with another bag that has the inevitable add-ons that I have acquired during the week (catalogs, sales kits, t-shirts, etc.). My bag came to 53.9 lbs. and they charged me! I was a bit annoyed, but then just let it go. I have to do this sometimes. But man, these airlines are turning over every last stone to make additional money.
The maintenance issues meant that I did not get home in time to see Z before he went to bed. But I did spend an hour or so with A and read him his nighttime book - a story about Percy from Thomas the Tank Engine. It was nice to decompress in this way! Then the next morning, it was up at 5:45 am as usual with Z. He was stunned to hear my voice and he looked up at me and widened his eyes to make sure it was me. I don’t think that I have held him longer than I did that morning. The sales meeting provided a nice break from home, but it is really all work, all the time (except for some fun team dinners) and so it was nice to get back to the boys and be a mom again.
