It was a hard weekend. Hard to leave HAZ (my new term for Husband, A, and Z) - especially Z. I have always traveled alot for work. I was thinking over the weekend that I used to LOVE to travel. I’d even tack on extra days to my trips to sightsee the city. That “want” changed however in 2005 when I gave birth to A. I thought that this was natural. But now with both A and Z at home this week, I feel like I am missing valuable time with them. A has new phrases each day! He changes his likes and dislikes by the hour! The movie Happy Feet could be on the outs by Friday. And when I hugged and held onto Z Sunday morning I knew that this would be the last time that he’d be “this small.” I got weepy in the car.
I am now in Sarasota, Florida for my company’s sales meeting. We have this three times a year - May is always in Florida and the other two are near are headquarters in Hoboken, NJ. Even though I miss the boys, I’m trying to make the most of my time alone. I finished a book yesterday that I had been reading for 8 months (it’s 600+ pages, so I’m not really reading THAT slow), I watched two movies that I wanted to see, and I sat outside for an hour this morning and peacefully read 50 pages of a new book. BLISS! I had forgotten how nice it is to just have alone time. I still miss the boys…but wow do I enjoy the quiet time.
Another nice surprise today as I returned to my room after an afternoon full of Global meetings…The nighttime turndown employee was at my door as I approached. I asked her if she was done and she said “No, Ms. Webb, but is there anything that you need for the night.” It took me a moment to realize that she actually knew my name. I commented to her that I just needed some bottled water…and I’m impressed that she knew my name (without looking at a sheet of paper). That personal touch made me feel really good after a long day of meetings. Kudos to the employee at the Ritz Carlton! She obviously took the time to learn the names of who is in her rooms and I feel welcomed by her personal gesture to me. Pretty nice!
