Another Impressive Market Research Incident

H and I had a special “date” day while the boys were at day care. We dropped them off and then went to have breakfast at Sunrise Cafe. Then we went back to the boys for the Mini-500 races and BBQ lunch…and then we left them AGAIN and went to see a movie!  We had purchased our tickets to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last night at Movietickets.com. The movie was very good and we were happy to have a nice afternoon of Harrison Ford, popcorn, diet coke, and milk duds!

After dinner tonight, H checked his email and found a follow-up email from Movietickets.com. Very impressive. The email hoped that our movie experience was excellent and then asked us to take a survey. I took the survey (and sent H up to give A a bath!). The first question was a basic “How was the movie?” question and then went into my memory of the previews shown before the movie. It gave me blank spaces and asked me to recall to the best of my ability to remember the previews. I remembered 4 out of 7 previews shown. I remember that there were 7 because H and I always bet on the number of previews (neither of us won…). Then it gave me a list of about 12 movies and asked me to then recall the movies shown. I was then able to remember 6 previews. Of the 6 that I was still able to remember (no clue still what #7 is…), I was then asked to rate my interest in seeing these movies. Finally, I was asked which one is my top choice to see in a movie theater. I remember that answer…THE DARK KNIGHT.  It looked good.  And I had just seen the Batmobile used in filming - it is currently on display at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum in a Comic Book exhibit!

I am so amazed when I receive this kind of targeted immediate follow-up. I’m attending eBay Live from June 19-21 in Chicago and will be scheduling a follow-up email to my leads the week of June 23rd - as soon as I return to the office and can get my addresses to our direct mail manager. And I’m sure that one week will be fast turnaround for me and my colleagues. I know that my two recent incidences (today and also after walking in the Komen Breast Cancer Walk) were likely automatic emails for follow-up, but I really strive for this kind of personal customer appreciation.
