First, welcome to my Grand Opening! Be sure to check out the About me section above to get my background and what you will find here. Now on with the show…
I was struggling on Friday afternoon to think of a topic for my first post on this new blog. I thought that it might be something to do with the Komen Race for the Cure Walk in which I participated this weekend with my family and good friends. This has become a yearly event for me now with my husband and now with our boys. My mother (though now deceased) survived her battle with breast cancer in 2001! So I walk in celebration and in memory of her. I also walk for myself. December 2000 through August 2001 was the most difficult time for me as I watched my mother undergo a double mastectomy and then 6 months of chemotherapy. It all seemed to happen so fast - like we were on a roller coaster with her. So, I am considered high risk now and get regular check-ups with a specialist. The Komen Walk holds emotional meaning to me as well as my need to support this cause.
Back to this weekend…on Saturday night while I happened to check my email box, I was surprised to find a post-race survey. I was partially surprised because I had just walked not more than 11 hours earlier. But more than this, I was IMPRESSED that the event coordinators had planned the post-event follow-up email so well. Not only was the experience they were asking me to recall fresh in my head, but I was still mentally (and emotionally) in the experience. As a marketer, this really made me think how good I feel when I am able to get that follow-up email out within two weeks! So the same day was incredible to me. And now it has raised the bar in my mind to get that follow-up contact done as soon as possible. Phew! I’m contacting my rebate company today to get them moving on my email addresses from D Month 2008 so that we can get in touch with them now! There is really no reason why it seems to take so long, right? Now I’m motivated!
